You being from the united states im sure you have met many people claiming to be buddists, but they do not take his teachings literally, like instant enlightenment. So i don't know i ve found alot of them to be bitter Christians.

And its not to insult buddists or the Buddhism religion but thats what they do and it is pretty crazy, but at the same time its impressive cause that is going to be very very painful and your going to di. And find out the hard way if your belief system is true. But it is dedication to what budda said. If you want instant enlightenment burn yourself to de..h. taking buddas words literally is quite shocking.
